Our Labs

We push the boundaries of technology in pursuit of certain breakthroughs. IIT madras is offering various lab sessions to explore and identify new technologies. Here we provided Lab’s Complete Information and Features. Dedicated researchers, students and staff accompany visitors to the labs, on a voluntary basis, offering their expertise and knowledge and demonstrating the mission and research activities of the IIT Madras.

Computation Imaging Lab

Traditionally, imaging optics design and image-based inference (image processing, computer vision) have been done independently. However, by jointly designing the imaging optics and inference algorithms, we can significantly enhance the performance of imaging systems which is the philosophy behind the fast evolving field of Computational Imaging.

Our research focuses on the following aspects of Computational Imaging (CI):

  • Develop novel CI systems
  • Develop theory to explore the performance limits of CI systems
  • Design deep learning algorithms for solving inverse problems in CI, image processing and computer vision

Organizational Behaviour Lab

Through the use of tools and an ecosystem, behavioral lab helps student researchers gain insights into human behavior, performance, and decision-making. Students can gather, compile, and analyze biometric data, such as EDA, EEG, ECG, HRV, respiration, as well as data from large scale surveys, VR, eye tracking, and other sources. Group conversations and ideation helps us challenge the status quo

Decision Engineering Lab

Matching demand with supply is one of the critical goals of modern firms. The complexity of efficiently achieving the goal is becoming enormously challenging in an uncertain, ambiguous, and multiagent business environment. Decision Engineering & Pricing (DEEP) Lab at IIT Madras specializes in engineering the best decisions using the wisdom from optimization, game theory & mechanism design, and pricing. Engineering of decisions has become a vibrant research area challenging the traditional tools in modern management.

Distributed Trust and Algorithms Lab

The Distributed Trust and Algorithms Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) focuses on building secure and efficient methods for sharing trust and information digitally. The lab’s research includes:
  • Post-cryptography: Making cryptographic systems more resilient to quantum attacks
  • Byzantine fault tolerance: Building distributed computing platforms that are resilient to faults caused by malice
  • Cloud computing: Designing algorithms and systems to enable secure cloud computing
  • Byzantine resilient protocols: Designing protocols that are resilient to Byzantine agents

Image Processing and Computer Vision Lab

Image processing concerns image properties and image-to-image transformations, whereas the main target of computer vision is the 3-D world. As most computer vision algorithms require some form of image processing, the overlap between the two areas is significant. The contours of the two also blend into those of robotics, signal processing, pattern recognition, control theory, artificial intelligence and other fields. The Image Processing and Computer Vision (IPCV) Lab which is housed in Room ESB 320 in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras was founded in 2001. It is a part of The Telecommunications and Computer Networks (TeNet) group with primary focus on image processing and computer vision. The lab currently has 13 working members and very good computational facilities. The members actively publish their works in international journals. The lab also has excellent industrial collaborations.

Medical Imaging Reconstruction Lab

In close collaboration with Radiologists, we develop methods for automated analysis of medical images towards obtaining useful diagnostic and prognostic information. We validate these methods on publicly available databases as well as using data from our radiologist collaborators. We also develop low-cost pre-clinical imaging systems for enabling in-vivo imaging of rodent disease models. Our focus is on developing low cost in-vivo fluorescence imaging systems as well as x-ray micro-CT systems.
